6 Creative Non-Toy Gifts for Children

Have you ever been sitting in the middle of the living room floor with toys piled practically to the ceiling thinking how long do I have to wait to take these to Goodwill? Let’s get real, children might play with 1 or 2 toys and then we will shove the rest in the back closet never to return. We have birthday parties coming up and the LAST thing anyone needs is more toys! I came up with this list of things that are much more practical and way more fun…

1.  Membership
This can be a membership to your local aquarium, zoo or other children’s place. When I was growing up some of my fondest memories were times spent at our local zoo, aquarium and creative discovery museum.
       2.   Books
No matter what the age books are a great educational gift for all children. Studies have shown the more you expose children to reading the smarter they become. As a former teacher I can attest that the sooner and more exposed your child is to books the better reader they will become it also helps them develop a broader vocabulary.
        3.  Classes
My daughter is currently enrolled in various classes and I can tell that is her favorite part of the day. She gets to play with friends and learn new and exciting things. I actually enjoy this time just as much as she does because it’s a great bonding activity and it allows us both to get out of the house and meet new people. This could also be an art or music class.
       4.  Experience
Even as an adult my favorite gifts have always been experiences because those are the things that make memories. This could be a trip to the movies, amusement park or the jump park anything that bonds you.
       5.  Swim Lessons
Summer is approaching fast swim lessons are a great gift for a toddler. It’s something fun and educational.
      6.   Money for College
You can never go wrong with the gift of money. Many children have to pay their own college tuition, which lands them in a lot of debt. What better present than to help a child pay for college. They may not thank you now but they will thank you later.

Toys are not the only way to a child’s heart. Experiences are things that will stay with them a lifetime. So instead of filling a room with toys that will only last them a little while help them make memories that will last a lifetime.

Chatt Later,
Leigh
